New land created in space
Building land in new space to inhabit.
The idea is to build a large structure in space that will be new land. Spinning the structure will create artificial gravity. Sealed in, with airlocks for entering and exiting the structure, air will fill inside of the drum. This land will be for living space, agriculture, factories, parks, parkland, roads, shops, schools, offices, and more.
Farming will provide food and clothing, as well as oxygen. Cycling water, carbon dioxide, and water between humans and plants will mean not having to constantly import food, oxygen, and water from earth.
The land will be built using a variety of materials, from asteroids and the moon. The goal is to create a habitat that will support the good life.
The structures can be used as a platform to build solar power satellites to beam power down to earth; to produce items that are easier to manufacture in low g; to give people living there access to a marginal space to do stuff that no one would pay for a launch to do.
Constructing land in space will not require developing new technologies. Gerard O'Neill pointed out that the techonology existed in the 1970s. On the other hand, new technologies that have appeared since then have made it that much easier and cheaper to build land in space.
Now is the time to start working toward building land in space. Sunfiver's mission is to do just that.
